3 Things to Consider When Getting Your First Embroidery Machine

Whether you are a beginner or an expert in the field of embroidery and sewing, the task of choosing the most appropriate embroidery machine for your home sewing duties could become a challenge, particularly if you are doing it for the first time. Each manufacturer usually showers you with praises regarding their product, and let's face it, this can get a little overwhelming at times. The truth of the matter is,  every embroidery machine has the same basic features. However, it is the little unique bells and whistles that differentiate one from the other. Therefore, if you're planning to get an embroidery machine for the first time, you need not to look at the overall features of the machine, but the nitty-gritties. Here are three crucial things to look at when getting your first embroidery machine.

1. Consider the Work Space Area

Whenever you need to get an embroidery machine, you must have a clear picture of what you want to do with it. Be it sewing children's clothes, quilting or even adding some embellishments to already existing attire, you need to consider the work space area as different kinds of embroidery work require different work space area. If you are a beginner, I would recommend you to start with a machine that offers you the standard size of 5 by 7 inches. This would allow you to do basic sewing for stuff like children's clothes. However, having a larger machine with a bigger work space area would definitely work to your advantage.

2. Consider the Usability

There's nothing more frustrating than purchasing something that you might struggle to use. When buying an embroidery machine for the first time, it is highly advisable to go for the one that is easy to use and understand. To help you do this, ask the following questions:

  • Does it have a start/stop button that's easily visible?
  • Can the threading be done with much ease or is it complex?
  • Can you edit designs on the screen?
  • Is the menu structure easy to navigate?

All these are things to consider when analysing the usability of the machine. You will be better off  if you go for a machine that you will master in just a few days, rather than that which will take you almost a week to master.

3. Consider Service After Sale

This is particularly important as like any other machine, you are likely to develop some complications after a period of using it. It is, therefore, important to ask your dealer if they offer any after-sale services like repair and maintenance. This way, even when something goes wrong with the machine, at least you know where to take it or who to call to get it fixed.
